Big Corn Farms Lead Way in Adopting Precision AgTech, USDA Says

(October 19, 2016) Largest corn farms, or those >2,900 acres, have adopted precision-agriculture methods at double rate of all farms, USDA says in a study published Tuesday.

  • 70%-80% of large farms use mapping, ~80% use guidance systems
  • 30%- 40% use variable-rate technology, a process that lets farmers know how much fertilizer, seed or crop protection to apply, when and where
  • Tractor guidance systems have grown faster than VRT over the last 10 years
